Position Summary:

The Underwriting supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities for the Underwriting function. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the direction and training of subordinates.
  • Allocate and coordinate resources and handle personnel related issues within parameters of division policy.
  • In conjunction with more senior management, develops, recommends and executes business plans for area of responsibility.
  • Incumbents are fully knowledgeable of assigned functional area and have a thorough understanding of the entire loan operations function.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and applications and their implications for assigned area.
  • Has supervisory responsibility for a team or department within the Underwriting function, including the design of relevant processes and concrete action plans.
  • Responsible for managing team performance and has a high degree of autonomy in making operational decisions
  • Directly supervising a staff of 12 - 15 Underwriters. 
  • Establishing goals and objectives that support and conform to guidelines established by the Underwriting Manager. 
  • Providing coaching and training to staff on all underwriting issues and policy exceptions and making recommendations to the Underwriting Manager for credit authority. 
  • Co-signing loans exceeding the lending authority of Underwriters
  • Reviewing approval requests for exceptions to Bank policy and determining acceptability to the Bank's risk requirements

  • 7 to 10 years experience within underwriting, with 1 to 3 years as team leader.
