Summary:
The Senior Economic Analyst is responsible for designing internal macroeconomic scenarios (including BAU Baseline and Stress) to comply with applicable US and Japan regulatory requirements, and new accounting rules (i.e. IFRS9) and expanding the list of macro/financial series to be used in regulatory exercises or internal projects. The Economic Analyst supports the Credit Strategies Group in developing and maintaining stress testing models.

Accountabilities:

Macroeconomic Analysis and Baseline Scenario
  • Expected to stay informed of economic trends and share information with the teams and management

Macro Economic Modeling
  • Develops and manages macroeconomic model(s) and communicates with internal/external auditors and internal risk and business partners
  • Run global large-scale macroeconomic vendor models (i.e. Moody’s Analytics, Markit Macroeconomic Advisors, Oxford Economics etc.)

Stress/Baseline Scenario Design and Analysis:
  • Designs internal macroeconomic scenarios to comply with applicable US and Japanese regulations, and new accounting rules (i.e. IFRS9) and expands the list of macro/financial series to be used in regulatory or internal projects and head office requests.
  • Assists with the design and execution of internal stress/baseline scenarios and expands regulatory scenarios
  • Ensures macroeconomic projections in all scenarios are consistent with corresponding scenario narratives and historical/theoretical relationships

Develop and Maintain Key Contacts:
  • During scenario design, collaborates with different stakeholders (i.e. Line of Business SMEs, MUFG Head Office, Branches etc.)
  • Collaborates with model validation, data, audit, etc teams

Policy Governance:
  • Updates Scenario Design Procedures and Guidelines documents to make sure the Bank’s scenario design process fulfills regulatory and business requirements
  • Maintains the process flows updated and saves operational/governance controls

Ad Hoc Projects:
  • Takes meeting minutes as required

Experience:
  • 5 or more years of relevant business/academic experience in macroeconomic forecasting or handling economic data and doing analysis is highly preferable
  • Management experience in a team-oriented workplace is preferred
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment under pressure and undertake, execute and deliver on time multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong focus on accuracy and reliability, so as to ensure confidence in results
  • In-depth knowledge of macroeconomics and time series modeling (OLS, VAR, VECM, etc.)
  • Ability to program in statistical/mathematical programs such as Python, R, STATA etc.
  • Experience in running global large-scale macroeconomic vendor models (i.e. Moody’s Analytics, Markit Macroeconomic Advisors, Oxford Economics etc.)
  • VBA Programming skills would be helpful

Education:
  • The ideal candidate is an economics graduate from MA or PhD program with emphasis on Macroeconomics and Applied Econometrics.
